1 review for 8ft 2in SUPer SUP PaddleBoard

  1. Rated 4 out of 5

I used the 8’2″ pro soft SUP paddleboard.

At 150 pounds or 68 kg, the board barely floats me with the deck out of the water, i.e., the top of the black PVC bumpers are at the water line.
I use this board for surfing a steep river wave and it rocks. Stable to get across the eddy line and over the bubble. Once you are on the wave, the board is easy to control and you can carve and also step back on the tail when necessary. The soft construction is great for the river environment especially since I have to climb up rocks and jump down onto the board to get back to the staging eddy. The board has little nose rocker so it is faster than its length would imply. Downriver the board is relatively stable because the edges are fully underwater at my weight and this provides stability since the current doesn’t push me around as much with the rail fully engaged with the water. The board ferries well. Once on the wave the board planes and its low volume for my weight is not an issue. The board is relatively light and easy to carry although I did cut off the handle because it interfered with my surfing.

I did have one issue with a 1 cm split in the vinyl just forward of the center fin. This split appeared to be a structural weakness in the board and not a result of contact with a sharp object but perhaps this split occurred because the center fin hit something and the vinyl gave way in front of the fin. The board got a lot of water in the tail which was discharged through the vent plug. Since the skin of the board is not laminated to the closed cell foam I think most of the water drained out since the skin is again taut against the foam. I fixed it with vinyl cement and assume that the patch will fix this issue although I have yet to get it back in the water.
